Possibly the silver frame of a late 18th century seal matrix or 'fob seal'. The frame is very fragile-looking, with half of it broken off (breaks visible on the reverse). The frame was made from silver wire with a clear front and back. It appears that half of it is missing, with all four strands being held together by the 'silver binding' at the top. The bottom loops would have been soldered or attached to the fob seal or swivel seal matrix.

Cast copper-alloy and glass paste seal matrix, probably from a swivel fob seal dating from the early modern period, that is the 19th century. The matrix consists of an oval thin, fragile copper-alloy frame with a thick dark blue intaglio made from dark blue glass paste. The frame shows two small holes which is where it was fastened into the semi-circular swivel frame. The semi-circular frame would have been attached to a long chain. The glass intaglio displays an impression on both sides: one side displays the initials IM in mirror-writing, surrounded by a floral design while the r…

An incomplete copper alloy fob seal matrix of late post-medieval to modern date. The fob seal is rectangular in plan with a clear dark glass intaglio inset into the centre. The glass is dark green although translucent. There is a red substance adhered to the glass. The reverse is domed and decorated with linear incised lines radiating form the centre where the handle would have been attached. It is not possible to determine how the intaglio is secured in to the frame though it is likely a resin or glue was used. The intaglio bears the image of the head and neck of a helmeted man facin…

Very small silvered cast copper alloy Georgian fob seal dating from the 18th century. The fob seal is complete with intaglio but the chain is missing. The body of the fob seal is decorated with moulded scrollwork, palmettes and ribbons, but the tinning/silver wash on the surface is very worn and only survives in patches. The intaglio is made from glass, probably, and is complete. Is shows the right-facing bust of a man wearing a cap with his hair curled back over the rim. He also seems to wear a draped cloak.

Cast cu-alloy seal matrix dating from the 19th or early 20th century. The seal matrix is complete except for the handle which would have been made from an organic material, most likely wood. The seal matrix's head is small and at the opposite end it has a spike that would have been driven into the wooden handle until the stop/collar in the centre of the artefact. The seal matrix itself is a small oval shield with the Union flag on (the Union flag or 'Union Jack' was adopted in 1801). On top of the shield is what looks like an officer (possibly a naval officer's?) hat and behind the sh…
