A silver service medal from World War 1, awarded to Pte. Nicholas Farnworth, 24391, which is inscribed on the rim of the medal. This silver medal was awarded to officers and men of the British and Imperial Forces who either entered a theatre of war (an area of active fighting) or served overseas (perhaps as a garrison soldier) between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918 inclusive. A lead alloy medal or homemade medallion dating from the post-medieval period, that is the later 18th century, AD 1739 - 1800. The medal is a sub-circular disc of lead with no evidence of attachment. There is one small chuck missing from one side. The front is decorated with an incuse design of a man in periwig and frock coat, facing right, holding a baton. The legend is very worn. This design was probably impressed into the lead from an Admiral Vernon medallion, which were commemorative medals made in copper alloy, to celebrate Admiral Vernon's successful capture of Portobello wi…
