Late Early Medieval to early Medieval copper alloy top guard element from a sword, probably relating to something like a Petersen L pommel, for example DENO-F08A65, or a late Medieval to early Post Medieval dagger guard. It is oval in plan, curved in profile, and square in section. There is a rectangular central perforation (12 x 6mm) to accomadate the blade's tang. The object is undecorated but there is what appears to be remnant sooting, or possibly a coating of some sort, inside the inner side of the curve's concave area. Lead alloy Early Medieval sword pommel probably Petersen type X dating 950-1000AD. A rectangular opening in the base would have housed the tang of the grip, and a hole through the hump would have been for the end of the tang with a cap or rivet on the end. The lead is patinated and scratched. The lead pommel exhibits the staining from gilding and appears to depict a bird with folded back wings. A complete copper alloy quillon or guard, probably from a dagger or knife, of early medieval date, probably 10th-11th century. The quillon is an elongated ovate shape with a curved profile and raised rim to the lower aspect. A sub-rectangular perforation is present at the centre through which the blade would have slotted into the grip. The surfaces appear undecorated. A copper alloy sword pommel of Early Medieval date. The object is of late lobed form, probably of 10th or 11th century date. The base, which curves upwards at the ends, would have rested upon a concave pommel bar. The interior of the pommel has an oval opening at the base and converging sides towards the oval aperture at the apex of the pommel which accommodated the protruding sword tang. Cast copper-alloy sword pommel of the hollow cast 'lobed' type. It is an elongated oval in plan (i.e. viewed from below) with two opposing faces that are subtriangular. It is semicircular in cross-section. The slot for the handle is oval. It consists of five curved lobes, all of them hollow, increasing in height towards the centre.
