A pewter hawking whistle of post-medieval (probably 18th century) date. The object is intact and in good condition. The body is cylindrical, tapering slightly towards the bottom. A raised ring at the top separates the body section from the thinner mouth-piece. Immediately below this upper ring is the semi-circular aperture which allows the sound to escape. A second ring is located towards the bottom of the body. Fitted to the underside is an attached suspension loop consisting of a tapering cone surmounted by a perforated globe. The whistle measures 43.85mm long, 14.6mm wide and …

A silver object, originally described as a bell, now badly crushed. The object is made of two hemispheres soldered with a lip going around circumference. There is a large hole on the circumference. Soldered adjacent to the hole is a separate loop of silver wire, now broken. Similar items with rope twist design around the circumference can be found on the PAS database: SUR-289379 (2016 T217) and SOM-3CE0DB (2015 T27). Further consideration of this object in August 2017 has led to the supposition that it is probably the ball portion of a post-medieval whistle - see DOR-6E2574 (201…

A lead 'nesting cup' weight of probable late medieval date. For similar examples, see G. Egan; 1998; pp. 309-10. The object is circular in plan and has a wide, convex base, forty-five degree sides and a repeating pattern of crescentic indentations around the rim. The underside of the base is concave. The object is corroded and slightly damaged. It measures 37.82mm in diameter, 6.37mm high and weighs 28.94g.

A copper-alloy trade weight of post-medieval date. Even though the crowned mark depicting the monarch is not clear, Bailey suggests that the position of the marks (see below) identify this as a weight of George III or George IV (pre 1826) (Bailey, 2000, p. 42). The weight is disc-shaped, measuring 19.3mm in diameter and 3.8mm thick. The upper surface has a recessed circular area bordered by a rim. Stamped on this recessed area are a sword (at twelve o'clock), a ewer (at six o'clock) and an illegible crowned letter (at three o'clock). The sword is the mark of St. Paul and indicates …

A lead weight of Medieval to Early post-Medieval date. A parallel is illustrated by Biggs and Withers (2000: 49, no. 155), who describe it as 'goldsmith's weight'. The weight takes the form of a cast quatrefoil of thin section. At the centre is a raised mascle bearing a fleur-de-lis. One of the four lobes has a raised border and contains a single raised pellet. The underside is flat and plain. The corroded weight measures 16.9mm wide, 17.2mm high and 4.4mm thick. It weighs 6.81g.

A copper-alloy weight of probable Late Medieval to early post-Medieval date. The weight takes the form of a thin circular disc. At the centre is a slightly raised ring with a small circular depression containing an unidentified white substance. This raised moulding is mirrored on the reverse and suggests that the object was turned on a lathe. Numerous concentric grooves and ridges on the reverse support this theory. On the upper surface are an inner and outer pair of deliberate, decorative rings. The artefact measures 59.9mm in diameter, 5.4mm thick and weighs 103.35g.

A lead weight of probable 13th to 15th century date. For similar weights, see Biggs and Withers 2000: 45. The crudely-made weight takes the form of an elongated heart with a flat upper and lower surface. One surface bears a longitudinal groove and two hollows which appear to have been created while the cooling weight was being removed from the mould. The surface of the artefact is heavily pitted. The object measures 71.9mm long, 48.2mm wide and 20mm thick. It weighs 440.3g, which is just short of the averdepois pound weight of 454g (see Biggs and Withers: 34-5).
