A possible copy of a Roman siliqua of Magnus Maximus (AD383-388). Reece period 20. GLORIA ROMANORVM reverse, Roma enthroned facing, head left, holding globe & spear. Minted in Trier. RIC volume IX, no 84b.
The coin appears to have pitting and there is a darker grey colouration in places. This is either as a result of considerable damage whilst in the soil, or the coin is a copper alloy core with silver coating. As it is slightly heavier than most normal siliquae, the latter is more likely to be true.
Dimensions: diameter: 17.03 mm; weight: 2.03g.
