A hoard of Roman coins contained in a small jar is said to have been found in the Ballast field at Bishopstoke in 1878. Also found were complete pots and "a huge trench containing horses heads and grain". The HER record implies the hoard was found in this trench. Possibly associated with a Roman building.

Abdy (unpublished catalogue) writes: "The latest coin is not fully legible but probably takes the hoard just into the joint reign of Honorius and Arcadius. If so this sole specimen would place Thruxton near the beginning of the sizable body of British siliqua hoards, which end with the period 395-402.
