A cast lead-alloy weight of Post-Medieval date, probably c. 1700-1800. The weight is discoidal with a scene on the obverse. The scene depicts, in worn, low relief, a man riding backward on a donkey walking/running left. Object type: SHOT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Gateshead
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A cast iron sphere, probably a post-medieval cannon ball. There is an indentation on one side. This may be a result of impact, but could also be the result of uneven corrosion processes. It weighs 877.94 g and has a diameter of 62.34 mm. There are clear signs of corrosion on the surface of the shot, which means it is difficult to precisely assign a calibre, but the diameter would fit a falconet or minion. Similar shot in the database include OXON-DA7DB8, WILT-FB42A2 and SWYOR-5EE135.
