The buckle plate is a sub-rectangular shape which narrows very slightly towards one end. This end has a trapezoidal notch cut into the centre of it and the edges either side are heavily abraded. This is the edge which originally would be hinged over the bar. One face of the plate has been decorated with incised curvilinear lines and small lozenge-shaped stamps in the centre. Opposite the hinged edge there is a rivet hole near each corner. The reverse of the plate is undecorated. The plate has a well developed dark green patina.
