One arm of a late Medieval - Post Medieval cast copper alloy purse bar. The arm is slightly oval in section, 8.0 by 7.6mm and decorated with criss-crossing pairs of inlaid black neillo lines. At the inner end it narrows slightly then expands into a v-shaped rounded collar with a lobed shape above beyond which is an old break, from parallel this is probably the jaws of a debased animal head griping the bar in its mouth. An incomplete cast copper-alloy purse bar dating to the late Medieval period, (circa 1450-1500AD). The object consists of a central undecorated shield-shaped boss with a central circular hole for the missing suspension loop. The two arms are sub-triangular in profile with the inner arms taking the form of devolved animal heads gripping the bar. The ends of both bars have broken off in antiquity. A fragment of a cast copper-alloy purse bar arm. Part of the framing arm from a purse of probable type A1 or A2 (London Museum Medieval Catalogue). The arm is oval in section and gently curving. On the lower edge of the arm are two evenly spaced and integrally cast attachment lugs with small circular pierced holes. These would have been for the attachment of the fabric or leather purse. A complete cast copper-alloy purse bar and suspension loop. The relatively short arms of the purse bar are broadly sub-rectangular with a rectangular cross section. The arms have a slight arch with an up-curve at the ends. They are waisted when viewed in plan with a thickened central section with a circular hole through which the attachment bar of the suspension loop passes. The terminals are plain. A fragment of a probable purse bar. The object is solid cast. One arm of a purse bar with a large terminal knop. The knop is domed and circular, decorated with six slightly raised teardrop-shaped foils radiating from the centre. The arm is circular sectioned and tapers slightly towards the knop. Copper and lead alloy probable purse bar. Broadly rectangular centre boss with curvilinear edges. There is a circular hole through narrowest axis (running left to right on the attached image). The front of boss is decorated with ring and dot stamping in a curvilinear, interwoven design forming a sexfoil . There are traces of gilding in the stamping. Just under half of a cast copper alloy purse bar of late medieval or early post-medieval date. The fragment measures 75.9mm in length and has a maximum width of 11.8mm. It weighs 23.05g. The surviving terminal is almost cylindrical with a wider, slightly convex distal end. Adjacent to the terminal, the bar narrows briefly then widens again into a longer section with an oval profile. A cast copper alloy Type B purse bar. The object has a rectangular loop, which has been cast as one with the shank, which has two collars and is oval in section. This terminates in a spherical rove. The fragment consists of one arm with an integral spherical terminal surviving for 29.3 mm in length to an old break. The arm is circular in cross-section and measures 5.2 mm in diameter.
