Object type: TRANSVERSE ARROWHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Dorset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Elongate, roughly triangular, transverse arrowhead. Mid grey flint with a small patch of pebble cortex on the dorsal surface. Mid gloss patina. There is a small striking platform at the proximal end and traces of a bulb on percussion on the ventral face. The dorsal face is extensively flaked along a central spine and pressure flaked along all three edges. The ventral face is less flaked. The longest side would have been the leading edge of the arrow.

At the proximal end is the striking platform and below this on the ventral surface is the bulb of percussion and a bulbar scar. Ripples radiate down the ventral surface from this point. The flake has been retouched around the distal end and part of the way up both sides, removing some of the remaining cortex in one area. The light brownish-grey flint has a mid-gloss patina. At the proximal end is the striking platform and below this on the ventral surface is the bulb of percussion and a bulbar scar. Slight ripples radiate down the ventral surface from this point. The flake appears to have been retouched at the distal end, but this end having become worn the proximal end was retouched to create a new scraping edge. A thick flint blade of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. The blade is a secondary waste flake. At the proximal end is the probable striking platform, a very slight bulb of percussion and a bulbar scar. Ripples radiate down the ventral surface. On the dorsal surface there are three main flaking scars. Flaking along the long edges is probably damage rather than deliberate retouch. There is a small area of cortex at the proximal end. The mid brownish-grey flint has a mid-gloss patina. Dimensions: 70.9mm by 22.6mm by 11.7mm Weight: 23.71

A flint waste flake of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. A single flint waste flake found during casual observation of groundworks for a pipe line at Higher Weathergrove, Sandford Orcas. It is probably of Neolithic or early Bronze Age date. It has a small area of cortex remaining at the distal end, bulb of percussion and slight ripples on the ventral surface and two flaking scars on the dorsal surface. It also has some edge damage. The light grey flint has a mid-gloss patina.

A flint waste flake of probable Neolithic date. The flake has clearly been struck with concoidal rings on every surface except one which retains cortex. Damage around the edges is unlikely to represent retouch. The flint is light grey in colour with only a slight patina. It measures 30.18 x 24.48 x 5.58mm thick (4.17g).

A possible denticulated scraper dating from the Middle-Late Bronze Age. It comprises a large part of a flint nodule with cortex surviving on all sides except the ventral surface, which is flat and smooth. One edge appears to have been coarsely re-worked to form a rough scraper. However, the edge seems very sharp and new and it may be that this effect has occurred 'naturally' through the action of vehicles running over the object. Flint does not occur naturally in this area but the object was found in the verge of a lane and it may have been imported as rough metalling. The object meas…
