An incomplete late Roman buckle plate. The plate is long and rectangular. The longer sides of the front are decorated with two parallel grooves containing small, closely packed transverse lines giving a ribbed effect. In the centre are five and a half lozenges set longitudinally down the centre of the plate, all but the half-lozenge containing engraved cross-hatched lines; the half-lozenge is filled with more concentric half-lozenge lines.
Each lozenge has a ring-and-dot motif at top and bottom, and there is a ring-and-dot motif either side of each join between lozenges. At the end…

A cast copper-alloy Roman zoomorphic buckle frame, dating from the 4th-5th century AD.
The remaining part of the frame is 'M' shaped, missing its axis bar, which would have been situated between the mouths of the two terminal beasts occupying the two ends of the frame. The frame is now so worn that no features can be distinguished on the zoomorphic heads, apart from the incised ears. The inner edge of the frame extends into a central pointed lobe. A copper alloy single loop buckle frame. The frame is oval. There is a constriction mid way along one of the long edges for the attachment of a pin. An incomplete copper alloy buckle plate. The buckle plate is rectangular with geometric openwork decoration. Along the outer edge of the plate is a cylindrical projection with an oval cross section which is split into sections by slots for the attachment of pins to the bar of the missing buckle. There are remnants of the bar remaining. Two of the original three evenly spaced slots remain, one retaining the stub of a pin. A fragment of a copper alloy buckle of Hawkes and Dunning type IIB, dating to, c. AD 250 - 400. The loop and pin are missing. The openwork integral plate is broadly rectangular and flat with an openwork design in the form of circular holes, underneath which there are rectangular voids. At the edge of the buckle plate, close to the join with the absent loop stub, there is a smaller circular hole which acts as a rivet hole. The outside edge of the buckle plate has an ornate design made up of knops which are now worn . The frame is slightly bevelled on one face. The reverse is flat.

Copper alloy buckle frame and pin. Double looped oval buckle with copper alloy pin. The inner edges of the frame are bevelled. The front is convex and the back is flat. At one side is a pionted projection with a central notch which forms the pin rest. Opposite this at the outer edge of the other loop is a moulded triangular knop also with a central notch. The fragment represents the roundedcorner of a sub-rectangular buckle, probably of two-piece form (i.e. with a separately made axis bar).The upper surface bears relief-moulded decoration comprising scrolls and lozenges, with evidence of a white metal coating.

A cast copper alloy double oval looped buckle frame. The front of the frame is convex with chamfered edges on the insides of the loops. The frame is decorated with four rounded knops, one set at each of the two "corners" of the outer edges. The back is flat and has file marks. The centre bar is D-sectioned, slightly narrowed from the frame and has a rounded knop at each end (extending beyond the frame edge). There are traces of iron corrosion on the bar, probably from the missing pin.

The frame has two D-shaped sides, separated by a circular-sectioned axis bar. The upper surfaces of the frame slope downwards and outwards, and one end is decorated by a number of transverse grooves. A cast copper-alloy rectangular shoe buckle frame of post-Medieval date.
The upper surface of the frame is decorated by moulded grooves, aligned longitudinally.Both vertical ends have a decorative projection with scalloped outer edge. Two opposing holes in the frame show that the axis bar, which is now missing, was added separately, and iron staining on the frame indicates the nature of its composition. The rest of the frame has an olive green patina
Ross Whitehead dates these buckles at c.1690-1720. Dimensions are: Length 36.4 mm. Width 24.1 mm. Thickness 2.2 mm. Weight 6.517 grams.

A ifragment of a post-Medieval sub-rectangular shoe buckle with drilled frame for a separate spindle. The frame has rounded corners and a moulded scrolled floral ornamentation with evidence of a gilded finish. The spindle,chape and pin are missing. Ross Whitehead dates this type of buckle from 1720-1790s. The object has a green patina with gilding evident in the recesses. Dimensions are: Length 39.1mm. Width 24.2 mm. Thickness 2.2 mm.
