A perforated lead-alloy weight of uncertain (suggested Roman to medieval) date. The freestanding weight is of truncated-conical form and has a vertical aperture at its centre. This aperture is of circular cross section and tapers from the bottom to the top(c.8.2 mm to c.1.5 mm). The weight has a matt chalky white patina. Dimensions are: Diameter at base 24 mm, Diameter at the top c.10 mm, Height 19 mm, Weight 48 grams. The dating of lead weights are problematic when found out of context, so a broad date range is given here.

An unidentified Lead alloy object, probably of fairly recent date, but potentially older, c. AD 1400-1900. The object is incomplete, comprising of a lead alloy disc with a single surviving attachment loop. The disc is decorated, all deeply incised, with a robed figure on horseback within a circular border. The border appears to have been used as a guide to cut away much of the original circumference, with, by the orientation of the decoration, between 2 and 9 o'clock missing. The weight of the object in combination with the positioning of the loop (which is not alligned with the decor…

Roman bi-conical cast lead steelyard weight with copper alloy loops at the bottom and top, one containing an S-shaped chain link. The central lead weight is corroded with only part of the surface remaining. The loops are formed from lengths of rectangular sectioned copper alloy wire. It is not clear if the upper and lower loops are formed of one piece of wire that runs completely though the weight, or seperate pieces embedded in each end. Both loops are very worn in the middle. The chain link is formed of a piece of wire bent into an S shape with straight ends and one end hooked thoru…
