A silver Medieval halfpenny possibly of Edward III (1327-77), Third 'Florin' Coinage (1344-51), Withers' Type 6, mint: London. Ref: Withers and Withers 2002: 25. The coin was poorly struck off-centre resulting in parts of the original die not being struck onto the flan, and parts that were are shallow and indistinct. The flan is chipped in places.

The coin has a diameter of 17.50 mm, has a thickness of 0.44 mm and weighs 0.525 g. The coin has suffered one considerable loss at its circumference, as well as one minor loss. The obverse has been double struck.

A group of 12 coins reported found near Evershot, Dorset. All are of silver of the sterling standard, c. 92.5% fine metal, a standard followed in both Scotland and England at this time. The coins appear to represent the currency of England in the later 1350s and 1360s, when the issues of Edward III's Fourth Coinage had come to dominate over the older sterlings of Edward I and II, although these still represented a large proportion of the penny denomination in use.
