A Medieval shield-shaped enamelled heraldic harness mount. A plate in the shape of a pointed shield. The front of the plate retains traces of indistinct decoration and patches of red enamel. It is not possible to discern the design. The rear is slightly curved and undecorated. There is no obvious means of attachment, but there is an area of possible damage at one side on the rear of the plate where it is possible there was a side loop. Date: Medieval - 1250 - 1400. The book clasp comprises a trapeziodal plate of sheet copper alloy plate, which is folded in two around a cylindrical axis bar and has two circular rivet holes towards the corners of the upper edges. A copper alloy Colchester derivative bow brooch. A Polden Hill variant with a chord hook at the head. The brooch is incomplete with the spring and pin missing. The semi-cylindrical wings are open at the rear and decorated with three vertical lines. At each end is an integrally cast cap with an off-centre drilled hole to house the missing axis bar. A medieval quatrefoil cast copper alloy book mount . The book fitting has a central circular conical boss with a flattened top and stepped lower part of two steps which sits on a square base.
