A small base angle sherd from a medieval cooking pot dating from the 11th-12th century AD. The fabric is oxidised patchy orange-brown in colour with a grey internal slip. Inclusions consist of frequent fine rounded quartz (<0.5mm), moderate larger sub-rounded to sub-angular quartz (<2.5mm), occasional angular flint and sub-rounded oolitic limestone (<4mm). Probably of local origin and similar to some Ilchester fabrics. It measures 41.62mm long x 24.28mm wide x 5.78mm thick, and weighs 7.69g.

The leg of a cast copper alloy cooking vessel, either a cauldron, a posnet or a skillet, of medieval or post medieval date. The leg measures 60.6mm by 35.8mm by 16.4mm and weighs 104g. It has a flat D-shaped cross-section with a flat front and trapezoidal facetted back. The front face has a central projecting vertical rib. The leg widens towards the flattish sub-pentagonal base. It would have been one of three on a complete vessel.

Part of a leg from a cast copper alloy cooking vessel of medieval or post-medieval date. The leg measures 37.2mm in length, 33mm in width and 16.7mm in thickness. It weighs 71g. The cross-section is D-shaped, with a flat undecorated back and a curving front with five vertical ribs. The D-shaped base is fairly flat and is at a sixty degree angle to the rest of the leg. From the base the leg starts to narrow but widens again after about 25mm. At the top of this wider section the break has occurred. The leg would have been one of three on the complete vessel. Its dimensions and hoof-like …

Part of a leg from a cast copper alloy cooking vessel of medieval or post-medieval date. The leg measures 41.6mm in length, 27.6mm in width and 14mm in thickness. It weighs 58.3g. The cross-section is D-shaped, with a flat undecorated back and a curving front with five slight vertical ribs. The D-shaped base is rounded. From the base the leg starts to narrow but widens again after about 26mm. Just above this wider section the break has occurred. The leg would have been one of three on the complete vessel. Its dimensions and hoof-like form suggest that it came from a post-medieval skillet.

A worn and incomplete leg from a cast copper alloy cooking vessel of medieval or post-medieval date. The leg measures 45.9mm in length, 31.8mm in width and 14.2mm in thickness. It weighs 73g. The cross-section is a long oval with slightly pointed ends. The back appears to have three slight facets (although one side is damaged) and the front appears to have a low and wide vertical rib in its centre. The break is concave. The leg would have been one of three on the complete vessel.

A small rim sherd from a medieval jug. The pale grey reduced fabric has darker grey surfaces and dense coarse quartz sand temper. The rim has an external bead which is decorated with incised parallel vertical lines. The slightly concave interior surface may indicate that the vessel had a lid seat. A very worn or miscast copper alloy leg from a cauldon, skillet or posnet of medieval or post medieval date. The surfaces of the object are very uneven although the front appears to have a moulded vertical central ridge. The leg would have been one of the three required to support the vessel, although if this example was indeed miscast it would never have been used. A sherd from a small green glazed beaker or double handled cup of early post medieval date. The sherd incorporates part of the rim and upper handle, which is set at an angle. The light buff fabric has few visible inclusions other than occasional specks of mica. The curvature of the surviving rim suggests a diameter of about 8cm. A cast copper alloy leg from a medieval or post-medieval metal cooking vessel, probably a post-medieval skillet judging by its dimensions and hoof-like form. The leg measures 53.11mm in length, 31.06mm in width and 18.10mm in thickness. It weighs 111.47g. The cross-section is D-shaped. From the base the leg narrows gradually to the point of the break, although in the centre of the surviving fragment the leg thickens briefly. There are also three slight vertical ridges which are equally spaced over the curving front. This leg would have been one of three on the complete vessel.

Three body sherds of hand-made pottery of Middle Bronze Age date. The sherds have been fired an orangey brown oxidised colour on the exterior surfaces and a reduced grey black on the interior. The fabric is very hard with a slight soapy feel and laminated fractures. The clay matrix contains a moderate to common (25-30%) amount of very well-sorted sub-rounded quartz grains measuring less than 0.25mm. There are also rare amounts of sub-rounded and well-sorted red and black iron oxides measuring less than 0.5mm. The fabric has been tempered with a sparse amount (10%) of sub-angular well-s…

Ten sherds of hand-made pottery of Middle Bronze Age date. Nine of the sherds are undiagnostic body sherds and the remaining one is a very abraded rim. Less that 5% of the rim has survived, making it very difficult to decipher its form and diameter, but it does appear to be slightly globular in shape. The colour of the sherds vary, but generally they have oxidised orangey brown exteriors and reduced grey/brown interiors. The clay matrix contains a moderate to common (25-30%) amount of very well-sorted sub-rounded quartz grains measuring less than 0.25mm. There are also rare amounts of …

Two sherds of hand-made pottery of Middle Bronze Age date. One has been oxidised orangey-brown all the way through. This may have happened after it was broken as the oxidisation visible in the fractures is slightly patchy and it has a softer more soapy feel than the other sherd. The other sherd has an orangey exterior and grey/brown interior.
