A sherd of externally glazed earthernware pottery. The fabric is reduced pale grey at the core with orange-red oxidised margins. It is tempered with abundant fine sand and sparse grog. The sherd is quite abraded The sherd has an external cordon and flanking groove around the girth. There is an internal shoulder, probably a lid seat. The exterior is decorated with vertical bands of trailed off-white slip with traces of green glaze over. Probably a sherd from a jug.  Date: Late Medieval - c.1400 - 1500 Weight: 19 g

A small bodysherd of a Medieval vessel dating to c. AD 1100-1500.  The fabric is a hard fired, rough and sandy with abundant translucent grey/white sandy quartz inclusions.  The outer surface is a buff colour and smooth with a row of vertical rouletted lines (and possibly a second row just visible).  The inner surface is a darker buff colour with some patches of darker grey and is rough and gritty.  The core is a darker unoxidised grey. It has a coarse, gritty fabric with many tiny flint inclusions and a possible iron stain on the inner surface, plus a small void on the outer surface. An incomplete Medieval ceramic handle dating to c. AD 1200-1300. The find appears to be the top part of a handle as there is a thumb indentation where it joins the vessel wall. The opposite end is lost due to an old break. The handle is made from a pale fired fabric, pale pink in colour with no visible inclusions.
