A sub-circular lead-alloy pot-mend with a fragment of the vessel still trapped between the front and back faces. The vessel is of a buff earthenware with abundant temper of rounded quartz/sand and there is no evidence of reduction or glaze material. Probably Roman to medieval in date.The pot-mend has a semi-matt patina and the pot thickness at the repair point is c.3 mm. Dimensions are: Diameter c. 27 mm, Thickness 8.9 mm.Weight 18 g.

A fragment of cast copper alloy jug handle. A curvilinear/leaf-shaped lower terminal escutcheon with relief decoration of two human feet. There are traces of solder at the back where the escutcheon would have attached to the body of the jug and the surface is keyed by diagonal scoring to improve adherance. A rim sherd from an early Roman Samian ware Dragondorff form 37 decorated vessel. The rim has an external bead, below which is a plain band (the fact this is fairly narrow suggests a 1st century date) and below this is ovolo (egg-and-tongue) decoration. Very little of the decoration below the ovolo survives. The curvature suggests a rim diameter of 15cm. Dimensions: 60.7mm by 47.6mm by 9.2mm Weight: 22.14g

A sherd of Samian ware. Fine, smooth fabric with occasional mica. There are conchiodal fractures visible. The exterior har a bright red slip with a slight gloss. Possibly of Eastern Gaulish manufacture. A sherd from the neck of a Samian ware flagon (Stanfield 929, 67). This is an unusual vessel form for Samian ware (Peter Webster, 1996, "Roman Samian Ware Pottery in Britain" Practical Handbook in Archaeology 13, CBA). One published example found at Alcester Warwickshire, is dated to the late 2nd to third centuries (REF).

The broken terminal end of a Roman copper alloy patera (skillet) handle. The sides of the handle taper towards the break with a double grooved linear border on either side. The terminal of the handle is circular with a beaded border running around its circumference, the centre is pierced for suspension and also has a beaded rim around its edge. These items were used in sets of three to protect the bases of Roman cast or sheet bronze vessels, in particular buckets (Jackson 1990, 46). The foot has a slightly curving rectangular shape, which would have corresponded to the size of the base of the vessel it supported. No 1: A rim fragment of a Roman Black Burnished Ware pottery vessel dating to the late 3rd century and later. The vessel type is that of a dropped flanged bowl typical of the late 3rd to 4th centuries AD ( Woodward, Davies, Graham 1993: 234-235, Type25, Fig 123). The exterior decoration is very slight and shows the top of the arc of an intersecting arcs pattern. Abundant rounded quartz sand temper with a reduced fired grey black fabric.
