A sherd of hand made pottery dating to the 12th-14th century AD. A fragment of a strap handle from a jug. The fabric is oxidised with coarse, poorly sorted temper consisting of stone, sand, flint and limestone pieces measuring up to 6mm. Red margins with a buff coloured core. A ceramic body sherd from a vessel of probabe early medieval to medieval date (c. AD 800 - 1300). The fabric is a mottled dark brown and black colour and exhibits abuindant poorly sorted angular flint temper. All edges terminate in old breaks which are heavily abraded. The sherd measures 23.68mm in length, 34.34mm in width, is 11.87mm thick and weighs 9.94g.

No 1: A rim fragment of a Roman Black Burnished Ware pottery vessel dating to the late 3rd century and later. The vessel type is that of a dropped flanged bowl typical of the late 3rd to 4th centuries AD ( Woodward, Davies, Graham 1993: 234-235, Type25, Fig 123). A rim sherd of a New Forest ware colour coated beaker with beading above an incised grove. The beading has slight abrasion. The body is thin and is well made with slight sand temper. It becomes thinner further from the rim and was probably reduction fired leaving a grey/buff core. The vessel is colour coated with a purple slip. Date: Roman - c 260 - 370 The fragment weighs 7.33g. A similar sherd is described in HAMP-4E3C31. The shape of the sherd corresponds to those illustrated in "Roman Pottery in Britain" by Paul Tyers 1996 edition, page 172.

Four sherds of handmade Black Burnished coarseware pottery.The reduced fabric has rounded quartz temper. Three sherds from flanged bowls and one possibly from a necked jar. There is some burnish on the exterior surfaces. Date: Roman period - 2nd to 4th centuries. Total weight: 32.22g. The sherds reflect the descriptions in "Roman Pottery in Britain" by Paul Tyers 1996 edition pages 63 -64 and are similar to those described in DOR-00C33B.

A base sherd from a Roman ceramic vessel, dating from mid 3rd Century to end of 4th Century. Probably Oxfordshire red slipped ware. The fabric is fine grained, micaceous and of an orange colour with buff interior. The fragment indicates that the base was flat and circular. Above the base the walls of the vessel flare widely outwards suggesting the vessel was a shallow dish. There is the remains of a footed rim. There is some burnish on both the exterior and interior of the everted rim with a rougher surface further into the interior.
