An incomplete "amphora" strap end dating to the Roman period, c. AD 300-410. The strap end consists of two parts, the larger trapezoidal plate and an attached rectangular sheet of folded copper alloy. This is flattened in cross section, and is attached to the larger trapezoidal part by folding around a flattened rectangular attachment bar. This is secured by a circular rivet. The aperture created for this attachment is also rectangular in shape. This attachment bar is the widest point of the strap end, which narrows to the fastening. A complete copper-alloy swivel strap fitting of medieval date c. 1200-1400. The fitting comprises a pair of D-shaped loops which are connected in such a way that they can each swivel. Each loop has with zoomorphic heads biting a central internal boss. The heads have prominent brows and expanded jaws. One of the bosses has an integral bolt that emerges from the centre of its base, the bolt narrower than the base of the boss. A complete copper-alloy strap distributor, bent to one side at one end (c. 10th-11th century). It is formed of two opposing strap loops, broadly triangular, with external recessed strap bars, which are connected by a central moulded animal head. The animal is viewed en face and is cat like, with small, slightly pointed ears, and two converging curved ridges which form both the eyebrows and nose; they do not meet. A large fragment of a broken post-medieval copper-alloy strap-fitting, probably a sword belt hanger/mount dating to c. 1500-1650. The strap-fitting would probably have had three suspension loops from which a trio of hooked plates would have hung, and with a trefoliate terminal (knop) at either end. The other terminal and two of the loops and all hooked plates are missing.
