Copper alloy strap end. Cast zoomorphic strap end with a beast head terminal. The strap end comprises two plates, each with a central, circular plate, a narrowed projecting strip at one side and a zoomorphic projection opposite. The strip is rounded and expanded at the end, pierced and retains a dome-headed copper alloy rivet. The front of the circular section is decorated with incised diagonal lines, in-filled with cross hatching and retaining some gilding. The design is possibly a letter, but is difficult to interpret. The strap end is broadly tongue shaped in plan, tapering from 9.2mm in width at its widest point into a zoomorphic terminal, 6.3mm wide and with a projecting square ended knop at the tip. It has moulded decoration forming a small chevron pattern above the knop and a larger one behind this. The fragment has broken part way down the strap end with probably about the bottom third or quarter remaining. This section is broad with parallel sides running to a semi-circular end. The openwork piece has 11 worn, mostly oval or sub-oval perforations.
