A fragment of copper alloy probable "amphora" strap end or fitting. A thick, flat plate of copper alloy with a curved end. On either edge is a small,curved and pointed projection. At the bottom of the curved edge is a small, oval knop. Extending up from this along the plate is a pair of incised lines. The plate is broken at the horizontal break. Date: Late Roman - c. The object is broadly rectangular with parallel sides and a zoomorphic terminal with rounded edges and corners that is sub-rectangular in cross section. An incomplete copper-alloy strap end of medieval date, c.AD 1250 - 1450. The object is one sheet from a two-piece of a composite strap end strap end. The plate is sub-rectangular with two triangular notched cut-outs at the top edge and two circular rivets near the corners. One of the holes retains traces of an iron rivet. resulting in a zig-zag appearance. The lower edge is rounded. Both sides of the plate are undecorated. A Medieval copper alloy composite strap end, probably dating to c. AD 1275-1450. The strap end is sub-rectangualr in plan, with a grooved aperture at the attachment and and a pointed knop at the terminal. The strap end comprises of two copper alloy sheet plates affixed to a central copper alloy forked spacer, probably with solder. Two separate copper alloy rivets survive at the attachment end. The terminal of an Early Medieval copper alloy strap end dating to the period cAD750 - cAD1100. The fragment has broken part way down the strap end with probably about the bottom third or quarter remaining. This section is broad with parallel sides running to a semi-circular end. The openwork piece has 11 worn, mostly oval or sub-oval perforations. They are irregularly arranged and no-symmetrical but there is not enough of them remaining for the pattern to be identified and the raised sections between are extremely worn. The front plate is taperaing and decorated with three groups of transverse grooves and pairs of ridges. Between these are two raised, square panels with triangular notches at the sides. The plates are tongue shaped with scalloped upper edges at the attachment end and a rounded central knop at the terminal end. A probably complete Medieval cast copper alloy forked spacer for a composite strap end, dating to c.AD 1280 to 1420. It has a plain acorn knop with a collar dividing the acorn element from the two prongs. It measures 13.3 mm in length and 7.6 mm in width at the point of maximus expansion.
