Copper alloy and enamel disc cut down from a larger object. Sub-circular disc with fields of champlevé enamel in opaque yellow. It has six discrete elements which form a knot style design against a paler, pinkish enamel background (this may have originally been red). There is a small attachment hole near the edge. The back is flat and undecorated.
Susan Youngs reports that: "Enamelling requires an edge to the field when the piece is fired: this disc has been cut down in antiquity and possibly pierced for suspension or by a rivet for fixed attachment. The use of angular fields and c…

Probable book or casket mount. An incomplete openwork rectangular plate with zoomorphic design. On three sides is a framing band with a rounded lobe halfway along the longest side. They are arranged in reflection of each other, each one raising a front paw and with its tail raised over its back. They both have a projection from their backs joining their tails, possibly representing wings? However, one has its head facing forw…

A copper alloy mount in the form of a human figure from a casket or reliquary. A robed standing figure with its right arm bent across the body to support an animal held in its left. There is a single circular attachment hole at the waist. It is possibly the figure of St Agnes holding a lamb. The back is uneven and undecorated. Its dimensions are 50.36mm x 19.21mm x 2.54mm
A similar standing figure, again with an angled base and interpreted as St Agnes holding a lamb was excavated in London, S70 in MacKinder (2013, 61).

An incomplete circular cast copper alloy mount, probably dating from the eighth century AD. The front of the mount, which measures 42.36 mm in diameter and weighs 5.98 g, is gilded, with the exception of an exterior band, 2 mm in width. About a quarter of the mount is missing. The front of the mount is decorated with four chip-carved fields. One of the pairs of opposing fields share similar designs, and the missing fourth field would have therefore presumably matched the the remaining third field. The matching fields each consist of a symmetrical interlace motif. The other field is dec…

A small cast copper alloy mount of medieval date which probably functioned as a decorative belt stud. The stud is sub-square and domed, with a hollow reverse. It measures 15.08mm by 14.07mm by 4.41mm and weighs 2.09g. The front is quite worn but may depict an animal or bird surrounded by hatching. There is an off centre circular perforation, 3.21mm in diameter, which was presumably used to affix the fitting onto a leather belt, by means of a separate rivet. Broadly similar mounts on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database include NARC-006481 (from Kislingbury, Northamptonshire) and HA…

Copper alloy mount or possible pin head. Circular with a central circular hole and silver inlay decoration. The mount is domed around the central hole, making it correspondingly hollow at the back. The decoration is in three main sections, comprising two panels of chip-carved interlace, separated by a narrow (apparently undecortated) panel radiating from the centre to the edge, and a third area containing triple strand decoration, probably a beast. There is an undecorated framing band around the outer edge. The decoration continues over the domed area until a raised, plaine ring which f…

A cast copper alloy lion mount of probable Roman date. The oval mount measures 26.7mm by 19.3mm by 6.7mm and weighs 8.46g. The front is patchily worn and corroded but appears to be moulded to represent a lion's face. The lion is looking straight ahead and bearing its teeth. It has a wide nose, protruding cheeks and upper lip and around the edge of the front of the mount there are hints of a curly mane. The back is concave. According to Sally Worrell the mount is larger and more elaborate than most lion-headed casket mounts, but there are a series of other mounts and appliques, particul…

A fragment of a sheet copper alloy, sub-lozenge, mount dating from the 13th-15th century. It was attached by at least two rivets, the remains of which are still in place on opposing points of the lozenge. Two further holes at the remaining two points may have been for further rivets (for which no evidence remains) or attachment holes for pendants. The mount has broken at these holes. The object is severly corroded and little remains of the decoration, although a central raised lozenge-shaped area would have formed part of the relief.

A cast copper alloy bar-mount with a central circular lobe cast integrally to two circular knops - one at the top and one at the bottom of the mount. The central mount is domed, it has been decorated with incised horizontal lines. Two separate rivets survive in situ, one in each of the terminal lobes. One of the rivets still holds in place a plate of broken copper alloy.
The metal surface of the object is mid brownish-green in colour and slightly worn. The mount probably dates to the 12th - 15th century.
Two of these bar mounts would have hung down from a waist strap and would have …

An incomplete silver gilt mount. The report from James Robinson at the British Museum is as follows: A Medieval mount in two parts. The larger part contains a roundel, which would have been central to the whole. From this radiate four bands of five strokes, two of which are interrupted by the break. At each end there is a small protrusion which may have formed a means of attachment.
