A gold finger ring with internal inscription. The band is D-shaped in cross section. The internal inscription on crude upper and lower case lettering reads: Yours in (heart). The heart is a symbol for love. There is a split in the band where it has posiibly been cut to resize it. The exterior is undecorated. Date: Post Medieval Dimensions: 3 mm width Weight.: 2 g Rachel King of the British Musaum has kindly commented: "I would place this ring as 17th or 18th century on comparison with BM examples. A Post Medieval gold finger ring. A posy ring with the internal inscription Let vertue be thy guide in italic lettering. There is no maker’s or other mark. The hoop has a D-shaped cross section and is slightly distorted into an oval shape. Dimensions: 21.70 mm x 2.25 mm x 0.80 mm Weight: 1.78 g This inscription is common on rings from the later 17th to mid-18th century. Judy Rudoe of the British Museum has noted that in the absence of a makers mark there is insufficient evidence to confirm that the ring was over 300 years old when fond in 2021 (pers comm 18/11/2022).

A copper-alloy Roman finger-ring with glass intaglio, Henig type II, dating to c. AD 100-300. The bezel is wide and oval and tapers smoothly into the shoulders. The base of the hoop has apparently been cut, but then the ends overlapped to close it. In the centre of the bezel is a recess that holds an oval, split (light on top, dark beneath), blue intaglio (11 by 9 mm) the back of which can be seen through a hole in the back of the bezel. The intaglio is likely a blue glass and paste in imitation of nicolo. The intaglio had an engraving which has been lost …
