A sherd of Oxfordshire fineware mortarium. The fabric is hard fired and sandy with sparse small black and red iron ore inclusions, occasional lumps of chalk and is micaceous (Young 1977, 123). It is oxidised orange at the margins with a grey core. The internal surface is covered in rounded pink quartz triturations (up to 2.5 mm). A base sherd. The sherd is abraded. It would originally have been red or brown slipped.

One sherd of Samian ware/terra sigillata (Eastern Gaulish fabric). Oxidised orange fabric with some white flecks. The surfaces are covered with with a brownish-red, thin slip with a matt finish. The brown finish is probably due to a slight mis-firing reduction of the kiln The surfaces are quite abraded and chattered.
