Object type: MICRODENTICULATE
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Dorset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A possible microdenticulate, probably of Mesolithic or Neolithic date, c. 11,000-2600 BC. Part of a larger assemblage of flint, see also: WILT-19B371; WILT-196E52; WILT-1940B2; WILT-19212E; WILT-185746; WILT-17D77C; WILT-17714B. A bladelet of grey-brown flint with a diffuse bulb of percussion and the distal end lost to a break. Fine retouch has created a possible serated edge along the right edge of the dorsal face, with this partically destroyed by short, semi-abrubt retouch creating a shallow indentation, potentially related to microlith production. Length 28.6mm; Width 1…

The flint is brown-grey, patinated white on one face. The proximal end does not survive, and the conchoidal ripples are very diffuse. The flake exhibits little indication of deliberate knapping with the exception of a clear line of short, parallel abrup…

An incomplete Neolithic (3500-2100 BC) polished flint adze or axehead, with an asymmetric section, measuring 80.26x51.81x26.40mm and weighing 98.72g. The flint is heavily patinated and an off-white in colour, with a brighter white showing through the flake removal scars. In shape the axehead has a curved cutting edge (51.81mm wide) and one steeply angled surviving edge (the other is missing), so it looks rather triangular in shape and probably was originally not much long than it is now. In cross-section, the axehead is D-shaped, having a pronounced curve to one face while the other…
