CORONER'S REPORT A copper alloy strap-end of early-medieval date. It measures 53.1mm by 13.4mm by 4.5mm and weighs 8.35g. Close to the split proximal end are two silver rivets and at the distal end there is a zoomorphic terminal, comprising a beast's ears, eyes and snout. On the front of the strap end there are the faint remains of a geometric pattern arranged in two symmetrical vertical bands, although most all of the original surface is missing so it is difficult to discern. The strap end is slightly bent, but its original width to length ratio would have been about 1:4. Note:…

An incomplete circular cast copper alloy mount, probably dating from the eighth century AD. The front of the mount, which measures 42.36 mm in diameter and weighs 5.98 g, is gilded, with the exception of an exterior band, 2 mm in width. About a quarter of the mount is missing. The front of the mount is decorated with four chip-carved fields. One of the pairs of opposing fields share similar designs, and the missing fourth field would have therefore presumably matched the the remaining third field. The matching fields each consist of a symmetrical interlace motif. The other field is dec…

A fragment of sheet copper alloy with an incomplete circular attachment hole. The object appears to have been lozenge shaped with the hole at one of the points. It is decorated on one face with incised curving lines. The back is flat and undecorated. It is possible that this is part of a Medieval belt mount or an Early Medieval dress hook. If it was the latter, the incised lines may have held niello inlay.

Copper alloy stirrup strap mount of Williams class A type 5. It has a pentagonal frame with a tapering, elongate point uppermost. There are two 'tendril' round ended projections running along the sides of the point. This joins to form a bar which would have terminated in the apex loop which is missing. The bar is D-sectioned. There was probably line decoration inside the frame but this has been obscured by corrosion. The back is undecorated. There is the stub of the iron spike at the base, in the middle above the flange.
