A fragment of a medieval (1250-1350) silver-gilt annular brooch consisting of an incomplete sexfoil boss and a section of frame soldered to the reverse. The boss is in the form of a six petalled flower with a central pellet, each pellet and the centre being concave to the front (and convex to the reverse). Two adjacent petals are damaged by the same curving break, diagonally across each; the break looks old. The front of the boss has a thick layer of gilding. To the reverse a curving 16.29mm long section of the annular lozenge-sectioned frame is soldered, an old break at either en…

The brooch survives quite well, only having suffered some post-depositional damage and the loss of its pin. The head has tubular wings, each with a terminal ridge. There is a further ridge either side of the wide head. The axis bar is largely obscured by the wings, but would appear to be made from iron judging by orange corrosion product both at the wing terminals and within the pin slot. The pin is missing.
