A copper alloy strap end of Thomas Class B, Type 13. The strap end is of tapering form with a wide, flared, split attachment end. The rear plates of the split end are broken at one corner. It is likely that there was a hole in each corner of the attachment end, but only one remains and retains a separate rivet. There is also a central, circular hole, probably for attachment purposes, suggesting the strap end may have been repaired at sometime. At the base of the split plate on the front of the object is a transverse ridge below which extends the solid, tapering part of the strap end…

Rectangular split plate with a decorative, flat bar projecting from it. Halfway along the bar are two rectangular projections. At the halfway point between these and the end are two smaller rectangular projections above two backward curving projections - together these form sub-circular holes. The end is trefoil with knopped ends. A fragment of fabric was preserved in the attachment plate. This appears to be woven linen - probably …

A medieval copper alloy strap end with two loops and two folded sheets (1270-1400 AD). The loops are made from plain copper alloy wire folded over and welded together. the loops are very narrow. the two loops are joined by a section of folded plain copper alloy sheet with wide gaps at the folds to accomodate the loops. A second broken sheet is attatched to one of the loops to form a jointed hinged stap end. There are no good parallels for this object in Egan and Pritchard, although plain folded sheets of this type were in use during the late 13th to early 14th centuries (Egan and Pritc…
