An assemblage of three side scrapers probably dating from the the Neolithic to Early Bronze Age. Scraper 1 has been struck off a secondary flake and retains some thin mottled brown pebble cortex on its dorsal surface. The flint is a variable mottled grey/brown colour colour with a dark grey band, off white inclusions and lighter patches. It has a semi-glossy patina. The scraper is sub-rectangular in plan with the left and right edges being curved and the proximal and distal edges being on angles. The right edge, as seen when looking at the dorsal face has very short parallel, semi …

Neolithic knapped flint tertiary blade retouched into an end scraper, c.4000-2100 BC. The blade has been struck off a prepared platform with part of the platform on the proximal end and bulb of percussion and percussion ripples visible on the ventral face. On the dorsal face are regular parallel aris left by similar blade removals from the same platform. There is retouch is around the distal end. The retouch is short, semi-parallel and semi-abrupt. There is some chipping down each side. The flint is light orangey brown in colour with darker mottling. It is 55.5mm long, 28.6mm wide and…

Knapped flint fabricator made on a large flake of Mesolithic to Early Bronze Age date. The bulb of percussion has been removed but the percussion ripple and visible. It is triangular in section with a central ridge on the dorsal face becoming thicker at the proximal end. There is retouch all around the edge: abrupt, scalar, short to long retouch down the sides and long, parallel, abrupt retouch around both ends. The right side (seen from the dorsal face) is straight while the left has a series of shallow notches. The flint is mid grey with paler mottling. It is 63.2mm long, 21.5mm wid…

A flint awl or piercer of probable Neolithic date. The proximal end is unworked and retains the outer, rounded pebble cortex. Above this on the dorsal face are three long, thin, parallel flaking scars. The distal end has then been worked to a point by retouching both edges from around the mid-point onwards. The object therefore has a rounded butt with a long, thin piercer extending from this, curving downwards slightly and tapering a little towards the end. The tip is blunt and this probably the result of damage following deposition. The flint is dark grey-brown in colour, growing ligh…

Worked flint side scraper, made from a secondary flake. The dorsal face has a central ridge running its length. To the right of this, the majority of the dorsal face is corticated. To the left is a long flaking scar, with two smaller ones at the promimal end. The left edge of the dorsal face has short semi-abrupt retouch. The ventral face is slightly convex. The flint is dark brown-grey with a light-grey patch on the ventral face at the bulb of purcussion. The object is probably of Neolithic to Bronze Age date. Three flint waste flakes, found close together. All likely to be of Neolithic to Bronze Age date. 1. Secondary waste flake with no signs of retouch. The edges remains sharp, with a small amount of plough damage. Cortex covers the majority of the dorsal face. The flint is mottled grey in colour with a high gloss patina. Length: 38.5mm, Width: 25.9mm, Thickness: 9.8mm Weight: 8.2g 2. Tertiary flint waste flake with no obvious sign of retouch. The edges remain relatively sharp. The flake is dark grey-brown in colour with a lighter patch on the left hand side. Length: 41.2mm…

A flint end scraper of probable Neolithic date. The scraper has been made from a tertiary flake (no cortex remaining) of mixed opaque cream to transparent light grey. The area of recortication on the dorsal surface indicates that the flint was not freshly mined when it was worked. The pronouced bulb of percussion and bulbar scar on the ventral surface suggest the use of a hard hammer. The dorsal surface of the distal end has been retouched. The retouch is short and abrupt. The scraper measures 76mm by 45.5mm by 14mm and weighs 50.8g.

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a polished stone axehaed of probable Neolithic date. The axehead is 49mm long, 37.3mm wide and 28.4mm thick and weighs 78g. The stone is probably a very finely-banded local sandstone but has characteristics of metamorphic rock, possibly a fine-grained gneiss, in which case it is not local (pers. comm. Dennis Parsons). There are minimal signs of surface wear.
