Rim of a medieval pottery jar. A sagging based cooking jar. Lorraine Mepham has identified this as 10th to 12th century in date and originating from Southern England, possibly Hampshire. The fabric has a slightly soapy texture and is coarsely tempered with abundant limestone and occasional flint and grog. The fabric is reduced and grey in colour, and there are patches of orange-brown oxidisation on the external surface. The rim is tall, slightly everted and plain.
