An incomplete small cast copper-alloy object, thought to be the stem and terminal of tongs used for sugar or similar foodstuffs, of post-medieval date (c.1600-1900). The terminal is broadly semicircular in plan with a gradual curve towards the stem of the handle and has a shallow circular dishing within the bowl's upper surface. The stem is twisted to give a rope effect; it is sub-circular in cross-section. The object has a dark grey patina consistent with a probable post-medieval date. Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment from a medieval cast copper-alloy buckle plate. The rectangular plate was once formed of a thick bent sheet folded double with a recessed pin notch; the plate has broken at the beginning of the recess and less than one half now survives. The buckle frame and pin have been lost. There is a pair of rivet holes at the attachment end, another pair at the frame end, and a fifth in the centre of the sheet.
