A Medieval copper alloy buckle plate dating to the period c. AD 1200 - 1300. The plate is rectangular with a rivet at each of the two rearmost corners. The front of the plate is decorated with a relief design of a lion statant guardant sinister within a raised linear frame. Both the lion and background field are stippled. The back is flat and undecorated. The folded edge has a rectangular pin slot where the missing pin would have attached to the bar of the missing buckle.
Similar examples are discussed in Egan & Pritchard (2002), p. 112, no. 500.
