A heavily worn Roman to Early Medieval copper-alloy coin, possibly a nummus of 5th to 6th century AD date, c.AD 425-530 (Reece Periods 22-23). The coin has some damage to the flan and evidence for corrosion, the surviving elements of the design now indistinct and lacking detail. Obverse: Unclear diademed bust right, extending to the edge of the flan; possible remains of inscription above, now illegible. Robertson 2000, 372 no. 1524: "[See Robertson 2000 no.1226 for Maiden Castle, 1934b] During the excavation of the Romano-Celtic Temple inside the Iron Age hill fort of Maiden Castle: "a small hoard of four gold coins of Arcadius and Honorius found with a gold ring close outside the east wall of the temple (see plan pl.
