The object is a vessel lid. It is sub circular in plan, with a sub-semi circular platform protruding from one edge. There are at least 5 very small angular protrusions which are probably decorative. The upper surface is slightly convex, the under surface is concave. Only the upper surface is decorated. The decoration is in the form of ‘ring and dots’ forming a border around the edge, and an inner circle which has trefoils of ‘ring and dot’ designs in the centre. From the base the leg narrows gradually to the point of the break, although in the centre of the surviving fragment the leg thickens briefly. The zoomorphic terminal measures 23.4mm by 17mm by 14.8mm and weighs 24.4g. Both ends are flat with a off-centre hole which is much narrower at the mouth end. The broken terminal end of a Roman copper alloy patera (skillet) handle. The sides of the handle taper towards the break with a double grooved linear border on either side. The terminal of the handle is circular with a beaded border running around its circumference, the centre is pierced for suspension and also has a beaded rim around its edge. An incomplete cast copper alloy vessel foot. A plain semi-circular foot from a tripod vessel (skillet or cauldron). The casting is poor with many inclusions and imperfections resulting several voids. There is also sooting over mich of the surface. Date: Post-medieval - 16th to 17th century Dimensions: 34.94 mm x 46.93 mm x 21.98 mm Weight: 92.04 g

The convex front has cast decoration of a transverse ridge towards the top of the leg and three cast longitudinal ridges extending from the top to the base.
