A fragment of a copper alloy Medieval to post Medieval vessel, dating to the period c.AD 1100-1700. The fragment comprises the foot, which is trapezoidal in cross section at the base. The cross section then narrows to become broadly lentoid when the foot extends upwards and narrows in width. A central longitudinal rib is present down the centre of the front.The upper terminal ends in a worn break. A green patina is on the surface, and sooting is present over much of the surface.
Cast cooking vessels seem to have been in use from c.AD 1100 until c.1850, when they were superseded by …

An incomplete copper-alloy zoomorphic spout of Medieval date, c. AD 1400 - 1500. The spout is from a copper alloy vessel, either a ewer or a laver. The spout is tubular with a zoomorphic head terminal in the form of a dogs head with gaping jaws that clasp a circular tube (7.3mm in diameter) that protrudes from its mouth by 3.19mm and is considerably worn by old breaks. Part of a leg from a cast copper alloy tripod cooking vessel of medieval or post-medieval date. The leg would be from a cauldron or similar vessel. The upper part has a D-shaped cross-section. The back is flat and undecorated. The foot projects forwards and widens out from the upper part. It is damaged at one corner but is broadly paw-shaped having a central rib and and a rounded corner. A cast copper alloy vessel leg from a cauldron or (more likely) a skillet. The leg is D sectioned and decorated with five parallel longitudinal ridges. The foot is rounded with a flattened and worn tip. At the top is a remnant of thin vessel wall with a smooth inner surface.

An incomplete medieval copper-alloy zoomorphic spout in the form of a dog's head dating to the period c. AD 1400 - 1500. The spout is from a ewer and exhibits a small section broken off at the base where is would have been attached to the body of the vessel and a small hole in the underside. The mouth of the spout protrudes from the open mouth of the dog's head. It has moulded eyes and stylised ears on either side of the head, the details of which are slightly worn. It has a green/brown patina and is slightly pitted in areas.

A incomplete cast copper-alloy domestic vessel dating to the Medieval to Post-Medieval periods, (circa AD 1250-1750) A fragment of rim, probably from a cauldron or skillet. The rim internally is thickened and externally straight walled. The vessel is thin walled and the breaks are sharp indicating recent damage. The curvature of this vessel suggest a diameter of circa 200 mm which would of made this vessel very delicate and fragile in construction. A copper alloy jug, with one handle. One of three containers for the Dorchester hoard found in 1936 (IARCH-5E5FEF). It was recorded as having a height of 1 foot 3/4 inches and a diameter at the top of 4 3/4 in. and at the base 4 in. Its maximum diameter was 7 inches. The handle was decorated with a vine branch and attached to the rim by two duck's beaks and to the body by a Silenus mask. Elements of the decoration were picked out in silver inlay.
