A copper alloy jug, with one handle. One of three containers for the Dorchester hoard found in 1936 (IARCH-5E5FEF). It was recorded as having a height of 1 foot 3/4 inches and a diameter at the top of 4 3/4 in. and at the base 4 in. Its maximum diameter was 7 inches. The handle was decorated with a vine branch and attached to the rim by two duck's beaks and to the body by a Silenus mask. Elements of the decoration were picked out in silver inlay. An incomplete cast copper-alloy pot leg from a cooking vessel. A large, poorly cast foot with a trapeziodal cross section. The front is decorated with three deeply moulded vertical ridges. It has an old irregular break at the upper end. The leg flares forwards at the base to create the foot. The surfaces are sooted from use in a hearth. Date: Medieval to Post Medieval - c.1200-1650 AD.
