Silver vervel or hawking ring; small silver ring of D-shaped section engraved on the outside in italic script: *At mounckton in dorsett. Hawking rings record the owner's name and sometimes their placeof residence, and were attached to the leather jesses on the birds legs which attached the bird to the block. The script and form of this ring can be compared with others in the BM collection and published examples from Norfolk and elsewhere. The vervel dates to the 17th Century.

A Post-Medieval silver hawking vervel, A circular D-sectioned band with an inscription on the outside. The inscription reads "H S at Horton , Dorset". The initials may refer to a member of the Sturt family (local landowners), particularly Humphrey Sturt senior (1687 - 1740) or Junior (1725 - 1786). The latter was an architect and built a tower at Horton. Date: c. 17th century

A complete silver vervel (hawking ring) of Lewis & Richardson type C.ii. The object comprises a shield-shaped plate with a separately attached circular loop at the rear, set along the long axis of the shield. The shiled is square-topped and pointed at the base. It is decorated with a goat head facing left, bearded, both curved horns visible and the pelt decorated with small incised lines.
