An incomplete small cast copper-alloy object, thought to be the stem and terminal of tongs used for sugar or similar foodstuffs, of post-medieval date (c.1600-1900). The terminal is broadly semicircular in plan with a gradual curve towards the stem of the handle and has a shallow circular dishing within the bowl's upper surface. The stem is twisted to give a rope effect; it is sub-circular in cross-section. The object has a dark grey patina consistent with a probable post-medieval date. Silver implement, perhaps a pair of tongs, shaped like a small pair of scissors with looped handles and hinge. One foot opening out in large petal-shaped terminal, the other with a much smaller circular, flattened end. The object opens and shuts with pincer movement but its function is uncertain. The find probably dates to later than 1710 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
