A fragment of a Middle to Late Bronze Age copper-alloy sword dating 1600-800 BC. It consists of a fragment of the blade. It is sub-rectangular in plan and lenticular in cross section. The edges are rounded and slightly jagged. The faces of the blade are plain. The fragment has straight transverse breaks on each end and there is a slight bend in the length , suggesting deliberate breakage prior to deposition (‘ritually killed’).  The fragmentary remains preclude typological designation so it is broadly dated from the Middle to Late Bronze Age. The o…

A fragment of copper alloy sword blade. A short section of blade with a broad, convex-surfaced mid-rib on either face, flanked by a pair of vertical grooves. Either side of this mid-rib the thickness gradually tapers towards the cutting edge. The blade is broken at either end. Three pieces of a cast copper alloy sword. A Ewart Park type.The pieces comprise two blade sections and a part of the hilt (the incomplete handle plate and shoulders). The butt of the handle plate is missing. The handle plate and shoulders have flattened outer edges. The shoulders are angled outward to the top of the blade. There are two circular holes on each side towards the edge of the shoulders. All the pieces have a wide mid rib along the blade, thinning towards the outer edges to form a lentoid profile. A worn and corroded fragment of the blade from a cast copper alloy sword or rapier, probably of late Bronze Age date. The fragment is 44.9mm long, 26.9mm wide, 5.9mm thick at the widest point and weighs 32.3g. The fragment has a patchy mid to dark green patina, although much of the surface and edges is damaged.
