Post Medieval complete cast copper-alloy 'pocket' sundial of 17th or 18th century date. The sundial is of the simple ring type. It consists of a broad, flat, copper alloy ring with a channel cut in the centre of the outer side along its circumference which is filled with a separate sliding collar; the ring is suspended by a short twist of wire. The exterior has two four incised lines running around it, one near each edge and two flanking the channel. An incomplete copper-alloy post medieval portable sundial.This example is of the simple ring type. It is formed of a flat copper-alloy ring with a rectangular channel cut in the centre for about a third of its circumference; this would have contained a separate sliding collar, which is missing. On the external surface, above and below the channel, there are inscribed measurement lines, above which are the first letters of the months of the year: '[I F M A M] I' (the earlier months) above and '[I A S] O N D' (the later months) below, upside down. Part of a copper-alloy post medieval portable sundial. The ring is squashed and split. This example is of the simple ring type. It is formed of a flat copper-alloy ring with a rectangular channel cut in the centre for about a third of its circumference; this would have contained a separate sliding collar, which is missing. There is no detail visible on the interior or exterior surfaces, but originally there would have been letters signifying the months of the year on the exterior and numerals for the hours on the interior. An incomplete and broken pocket sundial. It comprises a now broken copper alloy band in two pieces, originally circular. It lacks the usual separately applied copper alloy loop which would have been set into the a central recessed groove runs around the circumference of the exterior of the band. This groove has been perforated with a rectangular slot for part of its length.
