A cast copper alloy strap fitting component of probable late sixteenth to early seventeenth century date. One end of the flat, broadly triangular fitting terminates in a loop and the other end expands into a trefoil. There are two rivet holes, one through the central lobe of the trefoil and one adjacent to the loop. The front of the fitting is decorated with a moulded pattern which comprises a central four-petalled flower and several spirals. Similar sword belt fitting components usually have a hooked end which is threaded through one of the loops on an associated horizontal bar mount…

A probable cast copper alloy belt fitting (length: 52.14mm; width: 38.19mm; thickness at lion head mount: 9.19mm; weight: 27.58g). At the left side, there is a square headed loop which may have been used to attach the fitting to a belt. This loop has been soldered onto the main oval body in the centre. In addition, a further smaller circular loop has been soldered on (possibly for the fitting of a hook) at a 90 degree angle to the square headed loop at the opposite end. The central oval boss is cast and depicts a male lion's head in the centre. This is very prominent, protruding fr…

A cast copper alloy swivel of probable twelth century date. The swivel measures 33.3mm in length by 12.1mm in diameter and weighs 9.21g. It has been cast in two pieces which are joined by an integral bolt. At the point where the two sections adjoin, they are both cylindrical. The smaller of the two pieces narrows into a central flat section which is moulded to represent a stylised animal head on both sides and terminates in a loop. The large part also narrows into a central flat section, but this piece is openwork with a larger oval hole to accommodate the rivet and a smaller sub-circ…

The back is slightly concave and the front is convex. The acorns' cupules are not symmetrical, probably due to wear. On the back of the fitting are the stubs of two integral lugs which would have been used to secure it onto a leather strap. The object is fairly corroded with an uneven surface. Similar strap fittings on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database include NMS-9E6FF0, from Raveningham, Norfolk…

Two fragments, possibly of the same gilded copper alloy mount. A central square plate which narrows and then tapers into a round-ended tab at one side which has a forward projecting stud at the terminus. The central plate has openwork decoration and a relief, probably zoomorphic design. The central plate is quite corroded, but retains some gilding. Where the plate narrows before constricting further into the tab is a large circular attachment hole. The second, smaller piece is the similar to the narrowed attachment element described above, complete with stud and attachment hole. It is …
