The artefact is incomplete head of a skimmer made and used in c.1400-1700 The object is a slightly concave, circular disc made from copper-alloy metal with almost concentric circles of 32 similar in size holes ranging from 2.5-6.5 in diameter. It has a segment missing (6-8 holes missing) from the side reducing it's width by roughly 14%. On top of the disk, there is a separate piece of metal fastened on with 6 rivets which forms a cone for the wooden handle of the skimmer to be attached to the head. An incomplete copper alloy probable strainer. A slightly dished disc of copper alloy sheet metal which has been perforated by hand using a small sub-circular punch for the holes punched from the concave face (i.e.the majority of the holes) and a slightly larger sub-circular punch for the fewer holes perforated from the convex side (four holes irregularly spaced, but mainly towards the edges). A copper alloy probable strainer. A slightly dished disc of copper alloy sheet metal which has been perforated by hand using a sub-circular punch for 33 of the holes, and a rectangular punch for one. The perforations are arranged in approximate concentric circles and are of varying sizes. Possibly part of a watering can rose or a shaker (for flour, salt or sand?). A sheet metal handle socket from a skimmer. Fragments of a socket for a wooden handle(missing)from a copper alloy bowl used for skimming fat from a cauldron. The socket is constructed from two pieces of sheet metal which have been riveted together with rolled sheet metal rivets. The upper part has a tapering convex curve to it to accomodate a wooden handle. There is a single rivet hole in the wider end of the cone.
