A post medieval spur; the terminals and rowel are missing. The short fat square section box tapers into narrow curved arms which held the rowel. Both box and arms are similarly decorated with three bands each partially filled with lines of punched dots. there are four such bands on the box and the bands on the arms terminate in ring and dot stamps.

A Post-medieval copper-alloy spur rowel. The rowel consists of seven points, each point is seperated by moulded incisions leading towards a central circular perforation. There are traces of gilding on one side. The rowel is 39.25mm in length, 38.25mm in width, 3.25mm thick and weighs 11.87grams. A parallel can be seen in Read, 1995 fig 805-6 which has been dated to the 16th - 17th centuries.

A fragment of cast copper alloy spur arm. A small D-sectioned spur arm with a bilobate terminal pierced with two circular attachment holes at the end. There is a a bilobed knop at the end of the terminal and a transverse rib behind it. The remaining arm is decorated with twi transverse ribs flanking a rounded baluster style expansion. The small size suggestas a spur for a child. David Williams has suggested a 16th cebntury date to the spur (pers. comm.). Fragment of copper alloy rowel spur, consisting of part of the sides, the neck and an incomplete rowel box. Weighs 11.40g. The sides are an elongated D-shape in section, being flat on the inside surface. They extend c. 20mm in opposite directions from the neck, and the breaks are old but not ancient. The neck joins the sides as a diamond shaped mount, the neck extending away in a U-shaped curve, this itself being U-shaped in section. Part of one arm of a copper-alloy spur of medieval or post-medieval date. The surviving part is straight with a D-shaped cross-section and tapers towards the end. It has a figure of eight terminal with the arm meeting the terminal between the two loops. The holes retain their iron fixings. While this form was in use by the mid-12th century (Ellis 2002: 4; Clark 1995: 128 suggests mid-14th, fig. 333) it continued into the post-medieval period (Ellis ibid: 9).

Copper alloy rowel spur. The rowel is missing and the right side is broken in two. The spur is very ornate with seveal methods and styles of decoration. The sides are generally d-sectioned but are also deeply moulded with ridges, constrictions and expanded areas. A fragment of copper alloy spur arm. The arm has a triangular profile an tapers from the break to the terminal. At the terminal are two pierced, circular knops set one above the other for the attachment of the spur leathers. The front surface of the arm is densly decorated with fields of stamped annulets and curved lines, incised bands and towards the break, a larger design element of a subcircular frame with three expanding arms emanating from the top. A cast copper-alloy hooked spur fitting of post Medieval date, c.1640- c.1800. The object has a lozengiform back plate which is extended at the bottom end to form a attachment hook to the spur terminals. Attached to the backplate via a copper-alloy rivet is a drop-shaped projection for the leather strap The hook on this example has been bent closed. The object has a brown and green patina. A cast copper-alloy spur fragment of probable post-Medieval date. The fragment consists of part of the curved arm, which is of D-shaped cross section, At one end of this arm is a damaged attachment loop comprising one of an original two rectangular frames.The remaining loop has almost worn through to the back edge. The object has a degraded green patina and iron staining on the loop. Dimensions are: Length 48.45 mm. Width of loop: 11.09 mm. Length of loop 15.54 mm. Thickness: 4.95 mm. Weight: 6.345 grams.

A fragment of post-medieval copper alloy spur, consisting of the terminal (16th-17th century in date) and a short section of one arm. The terminal comprises three conjoined rounded lobes with pierced circular apertures. The central aperture is smaller than the two flanking it. There is a small pointed projection between the central and outermors lobe. There is an incside line adjacent to the lobe neares the remnant of the spur arm. A small fragment of spur arm. The arm has a triangular cross section. The convex outer face is decorated with incised curlecuesa along the edges and a row of transverse lines with annulets at the ends spanning the central ridge. The rear is flate. There is a break at each end of the fragment, it tapers slightly towards one and the whole piece is slightly curved. A Post-Medieval copper alloy rowel spur, probably dating to c. AD 1700-1850. The spur is fragmentary, with only one abraded arm and a circular-sectioned neck surviving. The rowel box, rowel and second arm all lost to old breaks. The surviving arm is plano-convex in cross section. The spur appears undecorated, but has surviving traces of a white metal coating. A fragment of Post-Medieval (1600-1800) tinned copper alloy rowel spur with grooved decoration, consisting of the neck, rowel box and parts of both arms. It weighs 20.42g and measures 51.73x45.34x11.99mm. The tinning survives in the grooved decoration only, and on the underside of the neck. The neck is oval in cross section (7.92x5.40mm) and projects c.21mm from the arms. It has a central slot for the rowel (now filled with iron corrosion) and a piercing at either end of its flared rowel box (for the spindle, also filled with iron corrosion). An incomplete copper alloy rowel spur. One odf the sides has been bent and has snapped off next to the rowel box. Both sides are D-shaped in cross section and taper to figure of eight terminals. Three of the four holes in the terminals retain the remnants of iron rivets. At the back of the spur is a short necked rowel box.
