A cast lead seal from a flax bale. A disc of lead with a hole passing through the upper part of the disc through the edge, for the attachment of a cord, wire or ribbon to attach the seal to the bale. A complete lead alloy Russian hemo seal of late post-medieval date. The seal is sub oval in plan with worn edges and a roughly rectangular cross section.There are two rectangular slots running parallel across its diameter through which wire or textile ligatures would have fitted in order to secure a bag. Both faces of the seal bear raised lettering.The surface of the seal has a light cream/grey coloured patina. The obverse inscription is illegible. A post Medieval Russian flax seal dating to the year 1806. The seal is oval in shape and consists of a lead disc with two diagonal perforations running through the centre to accommodate a cord or wire which would have been used to attach the seal to a bale of flax.
