Record ID: SOMDOR-250C34
Object type: MORTAR (VESSEL)
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Dorset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A rim fragment from a cast copper alloy vessel of probable post medieval date. The fragment measures 31.7mm by 31.3mm by 2.9mm and weighs 13.6g. Its curvature indicates a former rim diameter of about 9cm. The rim flares outwards suggesting it formed part of a small mortar. The fragment is decorated with three circumferential lines, one close to the rim and a pair slightly further down. The greyish colour of the metal suggests a leaded bronze.
