A complete copper alloy Iron Age or Roman miniature socketed axehead, dating to the period c.800 BC- AD410. The mouth is lenticular, with an ovoid indentation which represents the socket. In plan the axe expands out to a curve at its lower edge to acommodate the suspension loop in the form of a small aperture (2.41mm in diameter). It then narrows again before expanding out to form the blade. The upper edge is straight. The cutting edge is blunt and rounded at the corners. A cast miniature copper alloy socketed axe. The axe has a flared blade with a straight cutting edge. The socket is circular and tapers slightly. There is a knop either side of the socket at the edge. A Roman copper alloy miniature axe dating to the period c. AD 43 - 410. The axehead is rectangular with rounded corners and a slight curve along the length of the blade. It measures 13.9mm in length and is 4.1mm wide and tapers in thickness from 1.75mm at the butt to 0.4mm at the cutting edge. The handle is rectangular with rounded ends and is bent along its length. A Roman copper alloy miniature axehead dating to the period c. AD 43 - 410. The blade of the axe is triangular with rounded corners. It widens along its length froma width of 61.5mm at the butt to 10.8mm at the blade. The axehead is 1.15mm thick. The handle is rectangular in cross-section and measures 28.25mm in length, 4.85mm maximum width and is 0.8mm thick. Green (1981, 258) suggests that in a Romano-Celtic context, votive axes may have been good luck charms, although it should be remembered that interpreting their ritual function is difficult and this is just one possibility…

A lead Roman miniature axe dating to the period c. AD 43 - 410. The axe is triangular in plan with rounded corners. It tapers along the length of the blade from a width of 4.1mm to 14.4mm wide at the tip of the blade. It meaures 24.55mm in length and is 3.75mm thick. The axe is covered in a white patina.

A copper alloy miniature socketed and looped axehead dating from the Late Bronze Age to the Roman period (c. 1150 BC - AD 410) . The axehead has parallel vertical sides with an oval mouth and plain lip. It can be classified as Robinson's type IV. The side loop is set just below the mouth. Miniature socketed axeheads can be dated from the Late Bronze Age through to the late Roman period. They probably functioned as amulets or votive offerings. The majority are unstratified finds, therefore, it is difficult to give a precise date, hence the broad date range ascribed to this example. …

A copper alloy miniature vessel leg of probable Roman date (c. AD 43 - 410). The vessel leg is irregularly shaped and is oval in cross-section. It expands from the break point at the tip from a width of 5.75mm to a width of 9.77mm.. There is a small rectangular incision at this point of unknown purpose. Below this the leg narrows to a width of 3.45mm before expanding to a width of 5.45mm and bends into a D-shaped knee. The leg then bends back and terminates in a moulded foot incised with a horizontal circumferential groove. It measures 7.7mm wide and is 4.8mm thick at the foot.
