A copper alloy stud or linch pin of Iron Age or Roman date (c. 200 BC - AD 100). The stud consists of a circular head, slightly dished on one side and domed on the other side. It features a central circular perforation containing iron corrosion which is visible on both sides. The domed side is decorated by a series of incised lines following the curve of the stud around the central perforation. A possible linch pin terminal with a crude anthopomorphic head. It is in nthe form of a crude human head, cast in the round. The head is broadly oval with an off centre groove at the top (running front to back) The eyes are two small, but relatively deep holes, possibly once containing other material. The nose is flattened and triangular. The mouth is a simple horizontal line.
