A corroded wrought iron window/door latch of post-Medieval date. The latch has been manufactured from a rectangular bar which would have been approximately 14 mm x 7 mm. The roundel has been hammered out and has a tapered profile. The loop has a single circular aperture which was probably punched rather than drilled. The hook end is rectangular in cross section and has been drawn to a point. Length of latch: 124.35 mm. Width: 42.46 mm. Thickness: 7.08 mm. Weight: 94 grams. See Public-E2EAB4 and Public-E303D4. A forged iron latch, dating from the post-Medieval period and probably from a door or window. The latch has been hand forged from a rectangular bar which would have been approximately 14 mm x 6 mm. The roundel has been hammered out very thinly and has a tapered profile. The loop end has a circular 10 mm hole and the metal is waisted at this point, suggesting a punch was used. Much of the hook end is missing, but the remaining portion shows the bar was narrowed and probably drawn to a point. Dimensions are: Length 102 mm, Diameter of roundel 57.5, Weight 54 grams. A forged iron latch from a door or window, probably dating from the post-Medieval period. The latch has been hand forged from a bar with rectangular cross section, measuring approximately 12mm wide by 7 mm high. One third of the way along from the hook end is a roundel which has been hammered out and has a tapered profile. There is a section of this roundel missing, due to corrosion. The downturned hook end has been drawn to a point, with a single hammer blow to create the swan neck.
