A corroded iron tang knife.
The knife has a short blade ( 25 mm ) and longer, narrower tang (35mm) with parallel sides and flat surfaces.
Whittle-tang knives were used over a long period of time, from Early-Medieval to the post-Medieval periods. This example is probably from the Early-Medieval period. For parallels on the PAS database, see HAMP- 5F3322 and LEIC-5E2151.
