An incomplete Post Medieval copper alloy Jews Harp or Jaws Harp. It comprises a sub circular head, lozenge shape in cross-section, and one tapered prong The other prong missing. An incomplete Post Medieval copper alloy Jew's harp (or Jaws harp), dating to the period c. AD 1500-1800. The Jew's harp is lozengiform in cross section and comprises a sub circular head with two tapering prongs. A rabbat (notch) on one side at the apex of the head would have accomodated the iron tongue, now missing aside from a raised iron area above the rabbat. A brown patina is present on the surface. A copper alloy jews harp with tapered prongs and sub circular head with a lozenge-shaped cross section. At the apex, on the front face there is a horizontal groove for locating the iron prong. Either side of the groove has been flattened with a punch to trap the now missing iron prong. The metal has a dark brown patina. Dimensions are: Length 52.1 mm Bow Width externally 23.5 mm Thickness 4.9 mm Weight 8.169 grams. Jews harps date from the post-Medieval period.
